Hi, I’m Kristin! I’m a lawyer by day and dressmaker by night. I dove head first into the world of sewing in the summer of 2018 and haven’t looked back!

In retrospect, there are so many reasons why I sew, it’s a wonder that I didn’t get started earlier.

Sewing has always been lurking in the periphery of my life – my mom sewed our halloween costumes when we were little, my college roommate would sit on the floor of our sorority house sewing clothes for her fashion design club, and my husband’s aunt quilted us the most incredible Christmas tree skirt for our wedding – but it was always something other people did. I was too busy studying or driving my career forward to have any time for creativity. In fact, every other artistic endeavor I tried – knitting, painting, drawing – made me feel like I was going to jump out of my skin with anxiety!

Cut to 2018, and I my husband and moved from New York to the Bay Area, where we were both working 80 hour weeks while trying to build our new life on the West Coast. Working so many hours left little time for anything else, and I was starting to feel like something was missing from my life. One night, after hours of mindlessly browsing the Internet for the perfect blue and white ruffled sundress, which I couldn’t find, and even if I did, I would have to take it across town to be altered, it hit me – I could just make it myself! Within 24 hours, I was taking a class on how to use a sewing machine, and I was hooked.

For the first time in my life, I have a hobby that I love, and it’s been so incredibly worthwhile.  Sure, I’ve had lots of “things” that I did – I was part of that first generation of overscheduled kids who went from lesson to lesson – but this is the first thing I’ve truly done just for me. Not for a grade and not to add to my resume.

I’ve found so much joy and meaning through creating – it’s brought balance to my life, sparked a level of passion that I didn’t know was possible, introduced me to so many interesting people and given me one heck of a wardrobe!

I’m so grateful to be on this journey and hope you enjoy following along!
